Mark Schumacher purchased Three Rivers Resort in 1983 and has since added many cabins, an outfitting business, a restaurant, expanded the general store and implemented a myriad of improvements and growth to the business. Mark came from the Chicago area in the 1970’s to attend Western State College. He has volunteered countless hours to the local hockey organizations, the Upper Gunnison Water Conservancy, Gunnison Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Association, and many more local and state organizations. Mark also plays hockey and golf in local leagues. Mark’s wife, Mary Jo, is the resort co-owner and she still oversees the day to day operations of the large housekeeping department. She has strict guidelines for cleaning and prepares each cabin as if a guest were visiting her own home. Mary Jo is an avid runner and biker. She competes in rigorous trail races. She has also volunteered many hours with the local youth hockey scene, the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce, Partners (a mentoring organization), and many other local organizations. The Schumacher kids, Sarah, Luke and Dirk have all worked at the resort for many years and in many capacities.
Jen Bickford (formerly Stevens) has been the General Manager of the resort since 2005. She works with the owners to oversee the day to day resort operations and is specifically responsible for marketing, hiring/HR, gift & souvenir buying and supervising the operations of every department besides Maintenance and Housekeeping. Jen has been actively involved in the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce and the Gunnison Crested Butte Tourism Association boards. For free time, she enjoys hiking, mountain biking and snowboarding and can offer guests good trail information for hiking, biking and off-roading. Originally from Michigan she now lives in Almont with her husband, Lars, and son, Justin. She is a graduate and huge fan of the University of Michigan and Michigan Football.

Nick Mirolli is the Maintenance Manager and “jack of all trades.” Not long after high school, Nick came from the Pittsburgh area to live in the valley and ski. He rented a cabin at Three Rivers, was hired in 1995 and has been here ever since! In the summer Nick oversees a crew of 8-10 employees who take care of the grounds, cabin maintenance, new construction, fleet of automobiles, sewer plant, mobile home park and lots of other projects off site. They are a busy bunch! Nick is an avid and accomplished hunter, plays hockey and golf and is a fan of all Pittsburgh sports. Nick lives in Almont with his wife, Sara, (whom he met at Three Rivers) and 5 daughters!!

______________________________________________________________________________________________________John Covelli, a.k.a. “Vito,” is the resort’s Outfitting Manager. Each May, Vito conducts raft guide training for a new “crop” of guides and then runs the rafting operation through the end of September. Vito also supervises the fly shop and fishing guides, activities desk, photography and shuttle drivers. Most summer days you will find him on the river guiding. In the off-season, Vito helps with everything else – maintenance, housekeeping and front desk operations. Vito came to the valley in 1980, working for Mark Schumacher on a construction project. Mark then hired him to work at the resort in 1984 right after he purchased it and he has been here ever since! Like Mark, Vito came from the Chicago area, is a White Sox (not Cubs!), Bears and Blackhawks fan. When not working, Vito spends his time skiing, hiking, fishing and mountain biking. He lives in Almont with his daughter and son.

Shawn Dewey, or just “Dewey,” worked on projects for the resort for years before being hired on permanently in 2004. Dewey assists Nick year round with all maintenance work, although he is particularly skilled in carpentry and tile work. In our newly remodeled cabins, the beautiful tile in the bathrooms and kitchens is all Dewey’s handy work. In the summer you may also find Dewey on the East River guiding fly fishing clients in the private waters of the East River Anglers Club. If you need any help with fishing information, just ask Dewey but you’ll probably walk away with a lot of new fishing gear! Dewey is an accomplished hunter and “disappears” into the wilderness each fall. Originally from Fort Morgan, he now lives in Almont and cheers on the Denver Broncos each football Sunday.
Debbie Schultz is our full time Housekeeping Supervisor. She has been a great addition to our team with an ever-present smile while doing a very hard and dirty job! She oversees up to 18 staff members in our summer housekeeping department. Our hats go off to her – it’s a tough job. Debbie lives in the Gunnison area and enjoys crocheting and spending time babysitting her new granddaughter.
